| The first edition of
"1001Persian- English Proverbs" was published in 1996 and was received very well
by the Iranian Americans living in Washington, DC Metro Area and in other parts of the
Country. The second edition was published in 1999, and is designed to be quite useful to
English speakers as well. The book consists of 1001 Persian proverbs and their English
equivalents. The book also benefits the non-Farsi speakers who are interested in other cultures and languages. The literal translations of the Persian proverbs are provided. This feature makes the book very useful for non-Farsi speakers. The index of English proverbs is provided. There are 111 illustrated proverbs (riddles) which add to the attraction of the book. My purpose of publishing this work was to facilitate intercultural understanding and relationships. I believe this is strongly needed as we live in a multicultural society, and becoming familiar with various cultures is important. My book provides a fun and interesting way for becoming familiar with the Persian language and culture. Despite all differences in cultures, I have noted and displayed the similarities of Persian and American cultures by presenting side by side proverbs and idioms of the two cultures.
